Our History

St Kevin’s is a Catholic, parish‑based primary school of approximately 400 students, nestled in the heart of Geebung, just 13 km from the Brisbane CBD. As part of Brisbane Catholic Education, our school is deeply connected to the St Kevin’s Parish community, and we take great pride in being a place where faith, learning and family come together.

Our location places us within easy reach of many wonderful opportunities in the local area. Public transport options, including buses and trains, are close by, and families have convenient access to a range of nearby secondary schools. Our students come from Geebung and surrounding suburbs such as Chermside, Boondall, Zillmere and Virginia, as well as families who travel from further afield because they value the strong sense of community and the Gospel‑centred education we offer.

Families choose St Kevin’s because they see a school that lives out its values each day — a place where children are known, supported and encouraged to grow. Our motto, Laborare est Orare — To work is to pray — reflects the spirit of dedication, service and togetherness that continues to shape our school community. We are truly blessed to share this journey with our families.

The story of St Kevin’s began in 1959 when Father Timothy Norris was appointed Parish Priest of the newly formed parish. What was once an overgrown pineapple farm soon became a thriving centre of faith and learning through the hard work and commitment of local families. The church opened in 1962, followed by the school in January 1964, with two Sisters of St Joseph teaching the first four grades. Enrolments grew quickly, and by 1967 the school offered Years 1–7 with 220 students.

Over the decades, St Kevin’s has continued to evolve to meet the needs of families. Preschool began in 2003, transitioning to Prep in 2006. In 2014, we proudly celebrated 50 years of Catholic education in Geebung — the same year Year 7 moved to high school across Queensland. Today, we continue this rich tradition, offering high‑quality co‑educational Catholic education from Prep to Year 6.
