What happens in Prep?

Beginning Prep is a special milestone for every child and family. At St Kevin’s, we believe these early years should be filled with joy, curiosity and a deep sense of belonging. Our Prep program is grounded in play, exploration and discovery, all nurtured by our Catholic faith and values.

Our Prep experience offers:

  • A joyful, inquiry‑rich, play‑based curriculum that encourages children to wonder, explore and learn at their own pace.
  • Warm, dedicated teachers and support staff who know each child and walk alongside them in their learning journey.
  • Purpose‑built spaces and resources designed to spark imagination and support early learning.
  • Faith and values woven into everyday experiences, helping children grow in kindness, compassion and a sense of God’s love.
  • Strong partnerships with parents, families and the wider community, recognising that we learn and grow best when we do it together.
  • A commitment to nurturing the whole child — spiritually, intellectually, physically, culturally, socially and emotionally.
  • A safe, caring environment where every child is celebrated for their unique gifts and encouraged to flourish.
  • A gentle, well‑supported transition into the broader school community, ensuring children feel confident and ready for Year 1 and beyond.

To enrol in Prep, children must turn five by 30 June in the year they begin (refer to table below)

Prep Uniform
Our Prep students wear the same uniform as the rest of our St Kevin’s community, helping them feel a strong sense of belonging from their very first day. Uniforms are available through School Locker.
To support our youngest learners, Prep students are given a special coloured band for their hats. This allows staff to easily recognise them and provide extra care, guidance, and support as they settle into school life.
