 History

St Kevin’s is a catholic systemic, parish primary school of approximately 300 students located in the suburb of Geebung about 13 km from the centre of Brisbane City. The school is operated under the direction of the Brisbane Catholic Education Office and the school is seen as an integral part of the St Kevin’s Parish Community.

The school is well located geographically to take in many opportunities around the local area. Bus and trains are within close proximity to the school while secondary schools are all close by. The children in the school are drawn from the surrounding suburbs of Geebung, Chermside, Boondall, Zillmere and Virginia and suburbs further afield.  Families are attracted to the school for its ability to provide example and living out of the Gospel Values and providing and aspiring to excellence in educational standards and opportunities. The Motto of the school is "LABORARE EST ORARE" – “To work is to pray”. This applies well to the many features that make the school the great place that it is. We are truly blessed!

The history of St. Kevin's Primary School goes back to 1 August 1959, when Father Timothy Norris was appointed Parish Priest of St. Kevin's Parish, Geebung. The property was an overgrown pineapple farm with a run-down cottage which the Archdiocese had purchased. Through the hard work of many of the local Catholics and under the leadership of Father Norris, in June 1962 the church was opened. The school itself opened in January 1964.  Two sisters of St. Joseph from the nearby convent taught grades 1 - 4. The enrolment for the four grades was 89. The school was originally conducted in the present church building. In 1965 the first lay teacher was included in the staff. By 1967 Grades 1 - 7 were taught with an enrolment of 220. In 2003, St Kevin’s offered pre-school education for the first time, and this changed to the Preparatory year of schooling (Prep) in 2006. In 2014, we celebrated 50 years of Catholic Education at St Kevin's, Geebung. This was also the final year of Year 7 before moving to high school. We now offer quality co-educational Catholic Education for students from Prep - Year 6.
