Year 4 Discover What's In A Word

Is it ‘throte’, ‘throat’, throet’, ‘throught’ or ‘threaut’?  This was the question posed in Year 4B this week when it was discovered that children were finding it difficult to spell ‘throat’.  The end result was a brainstorm of other long ‘o’ sounds that can be made from a combination of vowels and consonants.  Some interesting spelling ideas were submitted for a number of words and then they went through the process of choosing the correct word ... purely by sight. Next week 4B will be investigating the letter ‘k’ that sounds like a ‘k’ but is spelt with: c, k, ck or que.
