Child Safety Curriculum

This semester, many classes will be using the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum to understand situational awareness and risk assessment skills including recognising, reacting and reporting. This curriculum has been developed to support Queensland schools to deliver key safety messages to students in Prep – Year 9. Fabulous resources have also been purchased to support these lessons. In Term 2, our teachers received training from our Guidance Counsellor and worked with the resources to provide a teaching sequence appropriate to each cohort.
Lessons will cover topics such as personal safety and awareness, including cyber safety and telephone safety. The lessons aim to develop student knowledge and skills using interactive materials and real-life scenarios to recognise, react to, and report unsafe situations. This provides a great opportunity for discussions at home regarding the content being covered and strategies being suggested.
